Chicago Reader Review
August 2006

  • THE TEMPEST Shakespeare's comedy is performed in an updated, abridged, "family-friendly" adaptation by the GroundUp Theatre. In this version, Prospero is a former CEO forced into early retirement, whose handsome son rescues the executive director's daughter after the company plane crashes. The roughhousing and broad characterizations--especially Karen Hill as a punk-chic Caliban and Eryn Gauen and Sabrina Lloyd as airhead interns Trincula and Stephany do enhance rather than interfere with this 90-minute open-air production. Les Liaisons Dangereuses is an enchanting adventure of deceit where lust and revenge dominate. The show is filled with witty language and clever twists. Kudos to Actors Workshop Theatre for delivering a worthy production of an ambitious and difficult show. This non-Equity troupe once again delivers fine entertainment. Woman will love this show.  The Production is articulate and filled with fine performances.

CURRENT PROJECTS AND other thoughts

*Currently, I am in an on going exploration of The Canon and other Language plays such Chekhov, Ibsen, Shaw, Williams etc...with  Susan Hart, and Jeffrey Carlson. He is an amazing actor, and Susan is a dynamic actress, and a genius interpreter of Shakespeare's characters and plays; not to mention, an incredible technician in verse or rather in her words "A Verse Nurse" of 'The Bard'. Her passion, and inspiration for the craft is insatiable. If you'd like to check out his website~   http://www.jeffrey-carlson.com
